    Autocross Rat S2000

    After a lot of hard thinking, I came up with another project.. Actually, it was just another stupid idea, I am full of them..

    My brother and I decided to build a car specifically for Wednesday night autocross events(for next year). After asking around, we got an answer that we can run this car in X class. We bought this car for our business to part it out but it drives straight so we want to have fun with it before it gets parted out. The budget is.. $0.

    The goal for this car is fun and just fun. We don't care about times, looks, etc. We just want to have fun. Since we parted out a couple of S2000s, this will spread the word. We will be making this the lightest S2000 possible without investing money. How far are we taking it? Just to give everyone an idea, this is what we will delete:

    - interior except seats and seatbelts
    - doors
    - bumpers
    - hood
    - trunk
    - headlights
    - taillights
    - fender liners
    - convertible top
    - anything else we deem not needed but safe enough to take out to pass the tech inspection.

    Enjoy the pictures of the masterpiece to come.(auction pictures)

    The car was bought at an auction to be parted out. On top of the salvage title, it has 123,xxx miles, seats are torn from water damage, convertible top is cut and the body has some cracks in bondo that was used for previous repairs. Trust me, this car is far gone, it only looks ok in pictures. This is giving it a chance to live one more year before it meets the scrapper.

    123k on an f20 is nothing. You'll enjoy that engine for many many moons

    It's not the mileage that sealed the cars faith. Salvage title and cracking bondo from improper repairs. Someone tired fixing it previously and they did a crappy job.

    Well.. Who doesn't like parts you don't have to pay for?!

    These came off of another S2000 parts car we had. Koni yellow adjustable shocks and Skunk springs. Hope to start installing them sometime soon.

    Crazy Idea. Why not find an old RWD Celica or something along those lines and swap this engine in there?

    This is a project that isn't supposed to take any money. Everything I put on this car has to be free. That is the challenge and the fun. Easiest way to make a car faster without spending money is deleting weight.

    Yep. Asked them, car will be classified as X Class which can only run in local autocross. That class does not exist in SCCA but Highlands uses it to let basically anyone run. This car will only attend Wednesday night AG Center autocrosses.

    Work continues with the S2000. Another parts car had Eibacj Pro-Kit springs so I swapped out the Skunk2s and installed the Koni Yellow/Eibach Pro-Kit setup. Continued tearing the car apart for weight savings and started on the alignment. Since I can not spend any money on the project, I will be doing my own alignment. Specs I am going for is even max camber up front, just a little less camber in the back, 0 toe front and just a little toe in rear. Maximum caster in the front and equal middle in the rear. Used some various color zip ties to hold some parts in place.

    Had a lot of fun today... cutting off bolts that seized.. For some reason Japanese cars have a lot more seized bolts issues comparing to European cars. Anyway, used various cutting tools to get the rear left lower control arm and wishbone off. Took replacement parts off the shelf and finished my eye balling alignment.

    So what kind of weight saving do you plan on doing? Just stripping excess material like crash padding, ect?

    This is a $0 budget build so weight savings will be anything I take off. I am close to finished with weight savings but still have ideas I may get to later.

    After a frustrating day at work, I decided to test out the S2000.

    Small update. Roll bar has been pulled from the donor car. Hopefully I will have time to install it sometime soon.

    I will give you a ride at the autocross.

    Think of this as giving second life to an S2000. Otherwise it would have been crushed.

    Looks good. After you have your way with this car what do you typically sell the engine trans combo for? My head is whirling with a f powered miata.

    I wouldn't know until I do some research and check how healthy the engine is. This one is higher mileage so it would be less expensive.

    lol It looks better now!

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Well, I am on the final stretch. Need a massive push to get it done since first autocross is in 2 weeks!
    The plan is to cut out the windshield and frame. Also, weld in bars where the doors used to be, this is to make the car legal for autocross. Biggest problem is sourcing this tubing. After all that is done, I will need to do some home alignment.
    Thanks to ideas from fb, I decided to throw on a set of Evo X wheels on the S2000, they fit! Looks like I have a set of square 245 I can run for autocross! Looks good too I think. Rear arches will need a baseball bat fender roll.
    Edit:
    What I am hoping the car will look like at March 23rd autocross at AG Center.
